Fixation of standards of Ayurvedic, Unani & Siddha drugs is a great challenge for the scientific field, particularly for those drugs which are derived from plants. It is due to the variation and complexity of active principles present therein. This variation is quite natural due to ecological factors where the drugs are grown. Similarly standardization of compound formulations is also a herculean task. Most of the compound formulations contain a large number of ingredients and it is very difficult to analyse each and every ingredients quantitatively as well as qualitatively. The Drugs of Ayurvedic, Unani & Siddha systems are covered under the purview of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act 1940. So far 619 single drugs of plant origin and 101 compound formulations of Ayurveda have been worked out by this laboratory. These Pharmacopoeial Monographs on single drugs and compound formulations have been incorporated in Ayurvedic Pharmacopoeia of India, Part- I& II, Unani Pharmacopoeia of India, Part-I &II and Siddha Pharmacopoeia of India, Part- I.
