National Medicinal Plant Board (NMPB), Ministry of AYUSH augmented the process for the establishment of a National Raw Drug Repository (NRDR) and Regional Raw Drug Repositories (RRDR) in the country for multi-dimensional referral centre of medicinal plants and raw drugs (plants, animals and mineral/metal origin) used in Ayurveda, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathic systems of Medicine. Raw Drug Repositories are established based on agro-climate similarities and logistic consideration. Regional Raw Drug Repository Gangetic Plain Region is housed at Pharmacopoeia Commission for Indian Medicine & Homoeopathy (PCIM&H), Ghaziabad (Uttar Pradesh). This repository was established on 24th May, 2021 and covers the states of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and West Bengal. This repository has dedicated facility of (a) Herbarium, (b) Raw Drug Museum (c) Reference Standards (d) Quality Control Laboratory and (e) Documentation & Training. The activities in the repository are focused on the following deliverables for stakeholders:

To act as accredited reference repository for authenticated raw drugs (plants, animals and mineral/metal origin) of AYUSH system.
Collection and preservation of medicinal plants species / animal and minerals/ metals origin drugs (irrespective of parts used as medicinal). Preserving herbarium specimen and raw drug samples with complete passport data for future reference and display in museum.
Collection, compilation, cataloging and documentation (including digitization) of information on collected raw drugs used in the Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani and Homoeopathic systems of Medicine (ASU&H) and preparation of comprehensive monographs thereof.
Digital Data Base: Medicinal plants and their officinal parts identification, named interrelate, and in detailed studies of particular groups of plants how they differ from each other.
Certified Reference Standards: Development of Certified Reference Standards and authenticated raw drug reference samples/standards and their availability for the stakeholders on demand and cost basis.
Development and publication of manuals for identifications of collected raw drugs.
‘Centre for Quality Certification’ of raw drugs: Testing/ Analysis of raw drugs/Ayush formulations for quality assessment as per regulatory/pharmacopoeial standards viz. identification, physico-chemical, phyto-chemical, heavy metals, pesticidal residue, microbial loads, aflatoxins etc.
Sharing/depositing one herbarium specimen and sample of each drug to National Raw Drug Repository, Jhansi, UP and also to National Medicinal Plants Board (NMPB), New Delhi.
Market surveillance and monitoring on availability of raw drug material in trade.
Information dissemination awareness and training /Capacity building to stakeholders in field concerned in a year.
Other core area activities specific to respective agro climatic zones.
